This is the transition country between the coastal prairie and the bayou bottoms, and that mix is what makes the tracts here interesting to work and awkward to quote from a description. The higher ground behaves like prairie: brush, weed and briar pressure on land that stopped being grazed, with Chinese tallow concentrated along fence lines and ditches where the water sits. The middle ground behaves like everywhere else in this region, closing in with yaupon, privet, tallow and greenbrier. Recreational or hunting ground is usually better served by mulching, which costs less, opens sight lines and leaves a mat that holds soil, on the clear understanding that it is a rotation. Bottom ground gets identified and, in most cases, left. We say plainly what we will not touch before the quote rather than during the job. Burning is genuinely available on rural ground here and on a large pasture reclaim it is often the cheapest ending for the material. It is also the option most likely to be unavailable when you want it, since Jefferson County burn bans move through the year and TCEQ outdoor burning rules apply regardless of whether one is active.
