House & Building Pads Services in Mauriceville, TX

Pads out here are frequently taller than owners expect, and the reason is what the required finished floor elevation demands rather than any preference of ours. We build and compact pads for houses, shops, barns and metal buildings across Mauriceville and the surrounding parts of Orange County. Free on-site estimate.

This area took an extraordinary amount of water in Harvey as the Neches and the Sabine backed up, and Imelda followed in 2019. Where a tract sits in a mapped flood zone, Orange County floodplain administration sets a required finished floor elevation above base flood, and on this ground those requirements are meaningful. A tall pad is a different build to a short one rather than simply a larger one. It has slopes on every side, it needs disproportionately more material once those slopes are counted, it displaces real water, and the consequences of poor compaction are magnified because there is more depth of fill to settle. The advantage of building on acreage is that you have alternatives. On a tract of any size there is usually genuinely higher relative ground, and starting a foot higher is a foot of fill you never buy. That siting conversation is the cheapest saving on the whole project. The soil is heavy clay that holds water and moves with moisture, on a stretch of the Gulf Coast taking around sixty inches of rain a year, which is why slab movement is common across this region.

We walk the tract for a better location before we quote a taller pad, because on acreage that is usually available and it is free. Then we establish the required finished floor elevation and shoot grades. Quantities get calculated rather than estimated: on a tall pad the volume is driven by footprint, height and side slopes together, and material compacts down from its loose hauled volume, so the difference between a guess and a calculation is a large number of loads. The footprint gets stripped of topsoil and organics down to competent material. Anything compressible under a tall pad consolidates under the weight of the fill itself, before the building is even placed. Fill goes in and gets compacted in shallow lifts with a padfoot or sheepsfoot roller. On a pad this tall the lift count is significant and it is what decides whether the pad performs. On a tract with room we look at cutting the bulk of the fill from the property rather than hauling it, frequently by digging a pond somebody wanted anyway. On ground where the required elevation is substantial that is a large saving. The side slopes get built at an angle that will hold and then protected rather than left raw, because on ground that has been under water, raw fill on a slope leaves in one event rather than eroding gradually. The drainage gets designed with the pad, since a structure this size displaces real water. Where clearing is involved, Orange County burn bans and TCEQ outdoor burning rules govern the material.

Why Choose TRP Land Clearing & Excavation in Mauriceville?

We look for a higher spot before quoting a taller pad. On acreage that saving is free and most quotes never look for it. We treat a tall pad as the structure it is. Lifts, slopes and drainage all scale with height and so do the failures. We calculate the fill rather than estimating it, and we look for it on your own property first. Free on-site estimate, owner on the machine.

House & Building Pads FAQ — Mauriceville

Why does my pad have to be so tall?
Because the requirement is set against base flood elevation for your mapped flood zone rather than against what was previously there, and given what came through here in Harvey and Imelda those elevations are meaningful. Orange County administers it. Rebuilding to an older floor height is generally neither permitted nor sensible. We confirm the requirement, shoot your natural grade and put both on the estimate before anything is ordered.
Can I make the pad cheaper by moving the house?
Frequently yes, and on acreage it is the best saving available. Starting from ground a foot higher is a foot of fill across the whole footprint that you never have to buy, and on a tall pad the side slopes mean the saving is more than proportional. Moving a building site is free while it is a line on a page and expensive once material is ordered, which is why we walk the tract for alternatives before quoting.
Why do the side slopes matter?
Because on a tall pad they are a substantial part of the structure and they are what fails first. Steep unprotected shoulders lose material in heavy rain, and on ground that has been under water that loss can happen in one event rather than gradually. Once the shoulders retreat, the slab edge loses support. Building the slopes at an angle that holds and then protecting them is part of the pad rather than a finishing touch.
